Start with the person seeking housing
A housing decision works best when the person who will live there takes part in the conversation. Families, case managers and referral professionals can help gather questions, compare locations and plan next steps.
Lantern provides non-clinical men’s recovery housing with peer support, case management and employment assistance. It is not a detox facility or a substitute for licensed clinical care. Ask admissions how the housing program fits the person’s existing care and support arrangements.
Choose a location around daily life
St. Johns House in North Charleston and Randolph Community in Summerville offer the same housing rate. Randolph includes two duplexes on approximately two acres.
Compare the commute to work, appointments and other commitments. Ask about current availability and room arrangements; neither a referral nor an application reserves a bed.
Make a useful first call
Call admissions at 843-874-8709, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern. Saturday calls may be answered, but availability is not guaranteed. Sunday is closed.
Home visits are by appointment. Contact admissions before arranging a visit; there is no walk-in reception for visitors.
- Explain whether you are asking for yourself, supporting a family member or making a professional referral.
- Discuss the desired move-in timing and preferred location.
- Ask about eligibility, current availability, house expectations and next steps.
- Ask how to share any necessary personal information through the appropriate private process.
Confirm costs and transportation
Housing is $995 per month, with a weekly payment option of $248.75 at either home. The intake fee is determined case by case. Ask for your total move-in amount, payment dates and refund terms in writing before committing. Review housing costs.
After you are employed at an approved workplace, purchase ride tickets directly from Get Out and Live, the transportation nonprofit. Tickets cost $5 each way, or $10 round trip. Confirm that the workplace is approved and that your shift, pickup and return arrangements can be accommodated before buying tickets or relying on a ride.
Keep personal information private
Use the secure housing application for personal admission details. Do not send medical records or sensitive case information through a general website inquiry or public review.
Before sharing information on someone else’s behalf, ask the person and admissions what permission and documentation are needed. Ask how family or referral-partner communication will be handled.
Before arranging arrival
Confirm acceptance, the correct home, the arrival appointment and the agreed costs directly with admissions. Use the move-in planning checklist to prepare. Please do not travel to a home or send someone there without confirmed arrangements.
